Church members carry a single wooden cross through central London in silent witness on Good Friday
London, 18 April 2025 — Members of Methodist Central Hall Westminster marked Good Friday with a Walk of Witness through central London, carrying a single wooden cross in silent reflection past some of the capital’s most recognisable landmarks.
The procession began at Methodist Central Hall and passed Big Ben, the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey, Downing Street, Whitehall and the Cenotaph. The cross was carried in turn by members of the church community, including 15-year-old Joshua Gibson.
The walk concluded at Trafalgar Square, where participants joined thousands watching the Wintershall Theatre Company’s open-air performance of the Passion of Jesus.
Revd Tony Miles Superintendent Minister at Methodist Central Hall Westminster, said: “Carrying the cross through the heart of political London is a public act of faith and hope. It reminds us that the message of Good Friday still speaks into the world we live in.”
The Walk of Witness is one of central London’s most visible acts of Christian witness, using presence rather than words to mark the day of crucifixion.
